OBJECTIVES:
Introducing the new lesson topic “Natural Disasters”.
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to talk about the weather forecast.
LANGUAGE CONTENTS:
Vocabulary: earthquake, volcano, typhoon, forecast, volume, thunderstorm, highlands, trust.
TECHNIQUES:
Questions and Answers.
Gap-filling.
TEACHING AIDS:
Pictures
Cassette tape, recorder, real things
TIME: 45 minutes
PROCEDURES:
STEP
TECHNIQUES AND CONTENT
WARM UP
T asks Ss to match the four pictures to the correct words – while asking questions:
Is it windy in picture 4?
Do you think it’s an earthquake in picture 2?
Ss practice in pairs.
T. checks Ss.’ answers by asking questions:
What can you see in picture 1, 2, 3, 4?
T. corrects their answers.
PRESENTATION
T introduces the dialogue by showing some pictures or listening a weather forecast, asking some questions:
What’s the weather like today?
Do you often go out when the weather is bad?
T. pre-teaches new words.
Ss. listen to the tape, comparing the weather in the dialogue with the weather forecast – listen to the tape (twice) (Ss. can repeat if possible)
T. has Ss. practice in a group of three.
PRACTICE
Ss. read silently – work in group to do exercise b (page 75 – 76)
Some of Ss. read aloud their answers before class. (complete sentences)
T. checks them and reads aloud.
CONSOLIDATION
Is it necessary to listen to the weather forecast?
Why are we afraid of natural disasters such as earthquake, volcano, typhoon?
HOMEWORK: ()
Learn by heart the new words.
Prepare for speaking in lesson 2.
